The Gutenberg-Gymnasium Bergheim is a high school in the district town of Bergheim .

history

The school was founded in 1970 as a single-course mathematical and natural science grammar school, although a little later the division into different grammar school types was abolished. It was possible to move into its own building in 1972, which, however, had to be expanded quickly, as the number of pupils grew rapidly, so that the one-room property also had to be abandoned. In 1978, the first year at the Gutenberg-Gymnasium did High School .

Student exchanges

Right from the start, the Gutenberg-Gymnasium had contact with foreign schools, so that student exchanges took place (and still take place) with Chauny , Bergheim's French twin town, as well as with schools in the USA and Italy. There are also class trips to Guidel in Brittany in the 10th grade , as well as final trips to Italy , Spain or Malta for example .

today

The Gutenberg-Gymnasium cooperates with the Silverberg-Gymnasium in Bedburg and the Erftgymnasium , which is also located in Bergheim . In this way, advanced courses, for example in art, can also be implemented in the upper level. The theater group SPUNK organized the SPUNK session for two consecutive years during the carnival season . There is also a choir that has already produced ten records and several CDs. The lower school choir (class 5-7) creates a music theater every year.

Since 2015, a project week has been held at the end of a school year in which the pupils in grades 5 to Q2 work on projects of their own choosing.

Since the school year 2016/17 the Gutenberg-Gymnasium has officially acquired the status of a Unesco-interested school. In addition, it is a STEM school and a school without racism.

Environmental school

The Gutenberg-Gymnasium has been striving for a responsible approach to the environment for years, which is why it also bears the title of environmental school in Europe . In this context, a photovoltaic system was installed on the school roof on July 9, 2004 , which generates electrical energy from sunlight on an area of approx. 15 m², which is fed into the public power grid.

Observatory

There is also an observatory on the school roof, which is supervised by a working group. For events such as the passage of the planet Mercury in front of the sun or the appearance of sunspots, it is also possible for small groups to observe them in the observatory.
