Guy Meynieu

Guy Meynieu (born June 15, 1922 in Bordeaux , † May 29, 2015 ) was a French football player and coach .

Career

The 169 centimeter tall defender played at EC Bordeaux in his youth and became French university champion with them. From 1943 he ran for the ÉF Bordeaux-Guyenne ; it was one of 16 regional teams that competed for the French championship instead of clubs in the 1943/44 war season. When regular play was resumed in 1945, Meynieu was in the squad of the second division club FC Toulouse , where he became a regular player and in 1946 participated in the promotion to the first class. After a year he turned his back on the elite class of French football despite the successful relegation and moved to the second division club Lyon OU ; there he was a regular player and achieved placements with the team in the middle of the table.

In 1949 he was signed by the first division promoted Girondins Bordeaux and made it straight to the first team. The defender, who was sometimes called up on the offensive, scored ten goals in the 1949/50 season and in this way contributed to the fact that his team won the championship title in 1950 as a promoted team. This brought in a participation in the Coupe Latine ; Bordeaux was in the final, but failed there to Benfica Lisbon . He remained one of the top performers in the team when Bordeaux finished second both in the league behind OGC Nice and in the cup; Meynieu was on the pitch when his team lost 3-5 to their opponents from Nice. At a time when substitutions and substitutions were not yet possible, the footballer was quickly ousted from the team during the 1953/54 season and could no longer get beyond a mission; this was followed by 141 first division games with 15 hits and 89 second division games with 13 hits, the end of his career. Immediately thereafter, he began a career as a coach that led him to several amateur clubs. In 1958 he took over responsibility for his youth club EC Bordeaux, which he remained as a coach until 1968.
