Guy de Château-Porcien
Guy de Château-Porcien , also called de Châtel († April 6, 1250 near Fariskur), had been a bishop of Soissons since 1245 . He was a nephew of Bishop Jacques de Bazoches on his mother's side .
Guy took part in the sixth crusade under King Louis IX. (Saint Louis) to Egypt . During his stay in Cyprus he was sent to Acre in March 1249 together with the Patriarch of Jerusalem and Geoffroy de Sergines to mediate in a dispute between the Genoese and Pisans . Then he rejoined the crusade army in Egypt. On the march back from al-Mansura to Damiette in April 1250, he stayed at the side of King Louis IX, while the papal legate Odo von Châteauroux chose the safe route on one of the galleys that went down the Nile . When they were surprised by the Mameluks at Fariskur , Guy gave up hope of ever returning to France, threw himself into the fight and was killed.
