Jacques de Bazoches

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jacques de Bazoches († July 8, 1241 or 1242 ) was bishop of Soissons from 1219 until his death . He was a son of the lord of the castle Nicolas I of Bazoches and Agnes de Chérisy from the house of Bazoches . His great-uncle was the Bishop Nivelon de Chérisy .

Jacques built the Donjon of Septmonts ( Département Aisne ) in 1223 , which has since been the official seat of the Bishops of Soissons. On November 29, 1226 he crowned and anointed the French King Louis IX. (Saint Louis) . Since the Archbishopric of Reims was still vacant since the death of Archbishop Guillaume de Joinville a few months earlier, he was the first suffragan of the Archdiocese to carry out this ordination.

Jacques' nephews, Guy de Château-Porcien and Nivelon de Bazoches, as well as his great-nephew, Milon de Bazoches, also held the same church office . The latter led the coronation of King Philip III. , for the same reasons as the coronation of Louis IX. took place.
