Guyanas
Guyanas or Guayanas is an inconsistently delimited collective name for political areas that are largely located on the Guiana highlands and are named after them. However, they do not all include the entire highlands; on the other hand, they are not limited to this, but also include the adjacent coastal regions.
In a narrower sense, the Guyanas include:
- the state of Guyana (formerly British Guiana )
- the state of Suriname (formerly Dutch Guiana )
- the overseas department of French Guiana (Guyane française)
Due to the colonization by non- Iberian countries, they differ greatly from the rest of South America .
In some cases, the following areas are also included:
- the Venezuelan region of Guiana (formerly Spanish Guiana), consisting of the states of Amazonas , Bolívar and Delta Amacuro
- the Brazilian state of Amapá (formerly Portuguese Guiana)
