Gwen Lee (born November 12, 1904 in Hastings , Nebraska as Gwendolyn Lepinksi, † August 20, 1961 in Reno , Nevada ) was an American actress . Her career lasted from 1925 to 1938 and includes more than 60 films.

Life

Gwen Lee was born to Mriette and Frank B. Lepinski. She began her career as a model in a department store, where she discovered the producer Monta Bell . After a successful debut as a stage actress, she signed Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1925 and received her first role in the silent drama Lady of the Night that same year . In most of her early films, Lee only took on minor roles, which were often uncredited.

In 1928, Lee was voted one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars who were predicted to have a great film career. In the same year she was seen as Lucretia in the drama Lach, Clown, Lach . Other important productions followed, including a total of nine times on the side of Joan Crawford . Unlike many other silent film actors, Lee made a transition to talkies. Despite a few leading roles, most of her film appearances remained small. Towards the end of the 1930s, Lee played only supporting roles before she retired from the film business in 1938.

In March 1932, Gwen Lee's mother Mriette Lepinksi applied for guardianship because, in her opinion, her daughter could not handle money and therefore had high debts. In April of the same year, Lepinksi dropped the lawsuit after her daughter's situation improved, according to her own statement. In 1943 Lee married George Mence Jr. and lived in Reno, where she died on August 20, 1961 at the age of 56. No cause of death was known.
