Monta Bell

Louis Monta Bell (born February 5, 1891 in Washington, DC , † February 4, 1958 in Hollywood ) was an American producer , director and screenwriter .

Life

Monta Bell worked as a journalist , including at the Washington Herald , before he went to Hollywood after the First World War. There he met Charlie Chaplin , who made it possible for him to appear in two of his films, in 1917 as an extra in The Adventurer and in 1923 as a policeman in The Pilgrim . He then directed, for example, Joan Crawford's debut film Dirnenliebe and Greta Garbo's first Hollywood film Floods of Passion . In Chaplin's film The Nights of a Beautiful Woman , he worked as his dramaturgical assistant and film editor . After 1930 he shifted almost exclusively to film production.
