Gwendolen is a fabulous British queen, known from the Historia Regum Britanniae by Geoffrey of Monmouth . She defeats her husband, King Locrinus , in battle and thus becomes ruler herself.

Gwendolen is the daughter of Corineus of Cornwall . She marries Locrinus and has a son and heir to the throne, Maddan . The conflict arises when Locrinus falls in love with an Anglo-Saxon princess, Estrildis , whom he saved from Humber the Hun . After the death of her father, he left Gwendolen and married Estrildis. Gwendolen flees to Cornwall, where she builds the forces that eventually defeat Locrinus.

After Locrinus' death, Gwendolen ruled peacefully for 15 years following the example of her father, only she had Estrildis and her daughter Habren killed. The two are thrown into a river that is now called the Severn . After she abdicated in favor of her son Maddan, she stayed in Cornwall.

At the time of her death, Samuel Richter is said to have been popular in Judea, Silvius ruler of Alba Longa and Homer in Greece .
