Gymnocalycium eurypleurum is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Gymnocalycium eurypleurum grows individually with cloudy olive-green to brownish, flattened, spherical shoots that reach 7 to 12 centimeters in diameter. The seven to twelve low ribs are somewhat humped. The one or two central spines , which are usually missing, resemble the radial spines. The four to seven awl, straight to slightly curved, brown radial spines have a length of 1 to 3 centimeters.
The white, pink-tinged flowers are up to 3 centimeters long. The whitish to purple-colored fruits are barrel-shaped and can reach a diameter of up to 2 centimeters.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Gymnocalycium eurypleurum is distributed in the north of Paraguay in the penumbra of the dry forests of the province of Alto Paraguay at altitudes of 100 to 600 meters.
It was first described in 1979 by Friedrich Ritter .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
