Gymnocalycium leptanthum is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Gymnocalycium leptanthum grows individually with dark blackish-green, flattened spherical shoots , which reach heights of up to 3 centimeters with diameters of 5 to 6 centimeters. The about twelve conspicuous ribs are not deeply furrowed. The mostly seven flexible, straight, whitish to gray thorns stand out evenly and lie on the shoot surface. They are up to 1 inch long.
The white flowers have a pink throat. They reach a length of 6 to 7 centimeters and a diameter of 3 to 4 centimeters. Your flower tube is slender. The club-shaped, green fruits have a diameter of up to 0.8 centimeters and are 2 to 3 centimeters long.
Distribution and systematics
Gymnocalycium leptanthum is common in the Argentine provinces of Catamarca and Córdoba .
It was first described as Echinocactus platensis var. Leptantha in 1905 by Carlos Luis Spegazzini . In 1925 he placed the species in the genus Gymnocalycium .
