Gymnocalycium mucidum is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Gymnocalycium mucidum grows individually with reddish gray to greyish purple colored, flattened spherical shoots that reach heights of about 4 centimeters with a diameter of 8 to 10 centimeters. The twelve ribs are divided into pointed, chin-shaped humps. The six to eight needle-like, somewhat curved radial spines are gray. The lowest of them faces downwards, the others sideways. They are 1 to 2 inches long.
The somewhat pinkish yellow flowers have a pink throat. They reach a length of 4 to 4.5 centimeters and have a diameter of 4.5 to 5 centimeters. The fruits were not described.
Distribution and systematics
Gymnocalycium mucidum is widespread in the Argentine provinces of Catamarca and La Rioja at altitudes of 500 to 1500 meters.
It was first described in 1937 by Hanns Oehme .
