The diocese of Kildare and Leighlin was established in 519 by Pope Hormisdas as the diocese of Kildare . 1152 the diocese of Kildare was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Dublin as a suffragan . The diocese of Leighlin was affiliated to the diocese of Kildare in 1678.
