James Moriarty (Bishop)

James Moriarty (born August 13, 1936 in Dublin ) was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin in Ireland from 2002 to 2010 .

Life

After his ordination on May 21, 1961, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Dublin on June 26, 1991 and was appointed titular bishop of Bononia . He was ordained bishop on September 22, 1991 by Desmond Connell . His appointment as Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin was on June 4, 2002 after the resignation of Laurence Ryan ; on August 31 of the same year he was introduced there as diocesan bishop .

In December 2009, James Moriarty offered Pope Benedict XVI. announced his resignation as Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin following the publication of the Ryan Report and Murphy Report , which clarified the sexual abuse and exploitation of children and young people in the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland. The resignation was accepted by the Pope on April 22, 2010. After a three-year vacancy , he was followed in 2013 by Denis Nulty as Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin.
