The diocese of Killala ( Irish : Deoise Chill Ala , Latin : Dioecesis Alladensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in Ireland . It was founded in the 6th century. The diocese, located in the ecclesiastical province of Tuam , has a size of 3,754 km² and in 1950 had 47,971 Catholics (97.4%) in 22 parishes with 61 diocesan priests and 124 religious sisters , but had no religious priests . The seat of the diocese is Ballina (Mayo) .

In the following years the area was affected by a strong population decline, so that in 2002 there were only 38,115 Catholics (97.1%) in 22 parishes with 55 diocesan, 5 religious priests, 1 deacon and 69 religious sisters.
