Gymnocalycium parvulum is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Gymnocalycium parvulum grows individually or sprouting with gray-green, spherical shoots when old and reaches heights of up to 3 centimeters with diameters of up to 3 centimeters (rarely up to 5 centimeters). The nine to 13 ribs are clearly bumpy. Central spines are absent. The five to seven almost bristle-like, slightly curved, grayish white to white or light brown radial spines are mostly on the shoot surface. They are up to 4 millimeters long.

The slender tubular to funnel-shaped, white flowers have a purple throat. They reach a length of 4.5 to 6 centimeters and have a diameter of 3 to 4 centimeters. The bluish green, slightly frosted fruits are spindle-shaped to club-shaped. They are almost 3 centimeters long and can reach a diameter of up to 1.8 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Gymnocalycium parvulum is common in the Argentine provinces of Córdoba and probably San Luis at altitudes of 500 to 1000 meters.

It was first described as Echinocactus platensis var. Parvulus in 1905 by Carlos Luis Spegazzini . In 1925 he placed the species in the genus Gymnocalycium .
