Gymnocalycium striglianum is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Gymnocalycium striglianum grows individually with blue-green to brown to blackish-green, glaucous , flattened spherical shoots and reaches heights of 3 to 5 centimeters with diameters of 4 to 8 centimeters. There are eight to twelve ribs . The three to five thorns are blackish brown and sometimes pointed a little lighter. They lie on the surface of the shoot or stand out. The thorns are up to 1.5 inches long.

The slender, funnel-shaped, creamy white flowers are tinged with pink. They reach a length of up to 5 centimeters (rarely up to 8.5 centimeters) and a diameter of 4 centimeters (rarely up to 7.5 centimeters). The gray-green, spindle-shaped fruits are up to 4 centimeters long and have a diameter of 1 centimeter.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Gymnocalycium striglianum is distributed in the Argentine provinces of San Luis and Mendoza at altitudes of 600 to 1200 meters.

The original first description from 1973 by Walter Jeggle was invalid according to the rules of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature , as information on the type was missing. Hans Till corrected this in 1987.

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
