Gymnocalycium taningaense is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Gymnocalycium taningaense grows singly at first and later sprouting with gray-green, flattened spherical shoots and reaches heights of up to 2.5 centimeters with diameters of 4.5 to 6 centimeters. The nine to eleven flat ribs have weak chin-like protrusions. The thin, needle-shaped, straight to slightly curved thorns are reddish brown to grayish brown and later turn gray. The one or two central spines, which can also be missing, are up to 1.1 centimeters long. The seven to ten lateral and downward radial spines are 3 to 8 millimeters long.

The white flowers have a yellow throat. They reach a length of 4 to 5.5 centimeters and a diameter of 3 to 4.5 centimeters. The blue-green, usually club-shaped fruits are up to 2 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Gymnocalycium taningaense is common in the Argentine province of Córdoba at altitudes of 500 to 1500 meters.

It was first described in 1990 by Jörg Piltz .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
