Gyrðir Elíasson (2011)

Gyrðir Elíasson (born April 4, 1961 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic writer .

Life

Gyrðir grew up in Sauðárkrókur in northwest Iceland, where he also attended school. He later lived in the western part of the country in Borgarnes and Akranes and finally in Reykjavík. After graduating from high school in 1982, he studied at the Reykjavík College of Education. He is a full-time writer and has already published several volumes of poetry, novels and edited volumes of short stories. He lives in Reykjavík, is married and has three daughters. The author has received several awards for his work. In 1989 he received the Þórbergur-Þórðarson-Stilpreis, in 2000 he was awarded the Icelandic Literature Prize, and in 2011 he was awarded the Nordic Council's Literature Prize in Oslo .
