Life

Gyula Kristó's parents were János Kristó, bricklayer of the Csongrád district building company , and Veronika Rostás. After finishing school, initially in Orosháza, Kristó studied between 1957 and 1962 at the humanities faculty of the József Attila University in Szeged. Here he received his diploma in Hungarian history in 1962 and in Latin in 1969. Kristó taught throughout his career at the University of Szeged (from 1962 to 1963, however, he was a teacher at the Radnóti Miklós Gymnasium in Szeged), since 1978 as a professor. From 1982 to 1985 he was rector of the university and dean of the philosophical faculty from 1987 to 1989.
