The Häusling is a 364 m high mountain in the urban area of Siegens in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is located about 1 km south of the city center on the Siegberg .
The top of the Häusling is largely undeveloped, but the lower mountain slopes all around. On the north-western slope there are tennis courts and the secondary school Am Häusling , not far away in the valley, the media and culture center Lÿz . On the neighboring former Waldrich site , which was used as a parking lot until the end of March 2009, a 3300 m² supermarket opened in March 2010. There is an image converter on the mountain, and the former Winchenbach School is on the upper southern slope .
Mining in the past
There were numerous pits on the mountain. In addition to the most famous, the Häuslingstiefe pit , there were the Morgenlust businesses and the Schleifmühlchen pit , which - already closed - was set up in 1818 as the training pit for the Siegen mountain school . In addition to the mines, which mostly looked for iron ore, there was a quarry.
