from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Héctor Incháustegui Cabral (born July 25, 1912 in Baní , † September 5, 1979 in Santo Domingo ) was a Dominican writer , editor, university professor and diplomat.

Career

After his early work as an editor and diplomat Incháustegui was a professor at the Catholic University of Mater et Magristra in Santiago de los Caballeros ; he also taught at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Dominicana .

His poetic beginnings show influences from Walt Whitman or Carl Sandburg and fall during the time when the Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo came to power . In the forties and fifties of the twentieth century he joined the avant-garde group La Poesía Sorprendida (The Oppressed Poetry), an elitist literary group that was internationally and experimentally oriented, in opposition to the prevailing oppression .

Incháustegui's poetic work is featured in a number of the most important Dominican poets of the twentieth century, such as Domingo Moreno Jiménes and Manuel del Cabral , who published some of his poems.

His book Diario de la guerra ("War Diary"), published in 1967, is considered the first-rate document of the civil war in the Dominican Republic. So far none of his works have been translated into German.
