history

The Hôtel Fieubet was built for Gaspard de Fieubet, conseiller d'État des Ancien Régime , based on plans by the architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart, including parts of the previous building, the Hôtel d'Herbault. In 1681 the Hôtel particulier was completed. The two sphinxes on the portal were added in 1685. After Gaspard de Fieubet's death, his brother Anne inherited the building. At the beginning of the 19th century it was used for commercial purposes and in 1857 the Comte de La Valette bought it, who had the building converted. Only the facade remained of its original state, which is lavishly decorated with caryatids , satyrs , flower garlands and fruits. Since 1877 it has housed the École Massillon, a school of oratorians .
