The Hôtel Stanislas (also Palais Stanislas ) is a Hôtel particulier and monument in Wissembourg in the French department of Bas-Rhin . The main building was built in 1722 and served Stanislaus I. Leszczyński as a residence in his first exile. The building no. 7 rue Stanislas was classified as a Monument historique in 1929 . It is currently to be extensively renovated.

history

In the same place was the Cistercian court of Sturzelbronn , which included a hospice , a chapel and an outbuilding. It was exchanged for a farm in 1717 and was bought by the Teutonic Order. He ceded the court to King Stanisław Leszczyński of Poland in 1719 . The main building was erected in 1722. The two side wings were added later, probably by 1738.

On September 5, 1725, Louis XV married . the daughter Maria Leszczyńska . His father-in-law was able to leave Wissembourg and moved to Chambord with his wife .

After 1789 the property came into civil hands and in 1869 it became the property of the city. First it was used as a school ( College Stanislas ) and from 1875 to 1973 as a hospital ( Hôpital Stanislas ). It served as a retirement home until the early 2000s. It was sold to private customers in 2015 and is to be renovated by the German owners for a sum of millions.

The hotel consists of three wings that surround a horseshoe-shaped courtyard. Access from the street is a portal in the form of a triumphal arch, which is cushioned by two flame pots. The southern facade facing the garden shows fourteen window axes. The most important attribute from Leszczyński's time is the monumental staircase made of stone balusters .

Outbuildings and a chapel were built for the hospital in the 19th century. Two chimneys, a late Gothic door and various spoilers , z. B. a lintel dated 1541 with a coat of arms, walled in, which could have come from the neighboring headquarters.
