The Hôtel de Sully in Paris is a Hôtel particulier in the Louis XIII style . It's in the Marais , in the 4th arrondissement , at 62 rue Saint-Antoine .

history

The Contrôleur des Finances Mesme Gallet had a house with a garden, an orangery and access to Place Royale (now Place des Vosges ) built between 1625 and 1630 . The Hôtel de Sully was built according to plans by the architect Jean Androuet du Cerceau .

Maximilien de Béthune , first Duke of Sully , bought the house on February 23, 1634 and spent the last years of his life here. His grandson Maximilien, second Duke of Sully, had a wing added to the west of the building on the garden side in 1660. The Sully family owned the property until the 18th century, after which the owners changed.

In the 19th century, the Hôtel de Sully was divided into condominiums ( Immeuble de rapport ). It underwent numerous modifications, also to accommodate craftsmen and shops. It has been listed as a Monument Historique since 1862 . After that, it was restored by its owners. In 1944 it became the property of the state. An extensive restoration followed, which ended with the restoration of the orangery in 1973.

Since 1967, the Hôtel de Sully has been the seat of the Caisse nationale des monuments historiques et des sites , which has been called the Center des monuments nationaux since 2000 .
