Höhfeldplatte and Scharlachberg
The Höhfeldplatte and Scharlachberg nature reserve is located in Lower Franconia am Main , between Thüngersheim and Veitshöchheim , north of Würzburg . The Höhfeldplatte is a mountain spur that is flattened at the top and rises about 140 m above the Main valley. The slope to the Main is used for viticulture .
The nature reserve consists of several hectares of dry lime lawn with a patchy pine forest . Many rare and protected plants can be found here in a relatively small space. The occurrence of orchids is particularly rich . There are a total of 13 different types of orchid on the Höhfeldplatte. Most can be admired on a specially designed orchid path.
The following types of orchids thrive on the dry limestone lawns:
- White forest bird
- Red forest bird
- Red-brown stendrums
- Mosquito-Handelwurz
- Large two-leaf
- Bee ragwort
- Fly Ragwort
- Small spider ragwort
- Spider Ragwort
- Bocks strap end
- Mountain forest hyacinth
- White forest hyacinth
- Helmet orchid
But there are also numerous lichens as well as feather grass , grass lilies , pasque flowers and real Solomon's seal .
From the south of the Höhfeldplatte you can see the Volkenberg and have a good view of the Main Valley .
