Listener certificate
A listening certificate was a certificate from a professor (or lecturer ) with which he confirmed that a student attended a lecture by this professor (i.e. heard it) and was therefore allowed to purchase a book (co-) written by this professor at a reduced price.
Audience certificates were usually issued directly by the professor in his lecture or at the chair 's secretariat . The discount on the sales price of a book on presentation of a listening license was generally 20 percent.
In Germany, since October 1, 2002, the law on price maintenance for books has no longer allowed listening tickets .
In Switzerland, where fixed book prices were rejected by a referendum, professors' certificates are still common.
In Austria, price reductions of 20 percent are also permitted through a listener's certificate.
