The Hörnchenberg is a mountain in the Palatinate Forest near Landstuhl , Rhineland-Palatinate , between Atzel and Mittelbrunn .

geography

The Hörnchenberg is a spur mountain that rises south of Atzel on the edge of the Palatinate Forest . It reaches 453 m above sea level . Atzel's residential areas are located at the foot of the mountain, which hydrographically belongs to the catchment area of ​​the Hemsbach . The L 470 runs on the north-western slope of the mountain, where there is also an access to the federal motorway 62 (11 Landstuhl-Atzel). The mountain itself is cut through by the Hörnchenberg tunnel of the motorway. The L 469 runs from Atzel to Mittelbrunn on the south-eastern mountain flank . Another settlement on the mountain is the Bildachenhof on the north flank. The closest elevations are Bildachen (438 m) and Klaffenberg (420 m) in the southwest and south, respectively. They belong to the same hill as the Hörnchenberg.

Freetime activities

From Atzel a hiking trail leads south over the federal motorway 62 and as a circular route over the hill of the Hörnchenberg. Paths in the Pfälzerwald mountain bike park system also lead over the Hörnchenberg.
