Sprockhoff no. 48

The Olpenitz Hünenbett is located south of the sluice mouth , 100 m from the eastern edge of the Kühlen forest. Olpenitz belongs to the town of Kappeln in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein .

It is a barren bed in an approximate northeast-southwest direction. On the north-western long side there are still 17 stones, the south-eastern one still has 14. The south-western narrow side has apparently ended in a semicircle. The bed is seven meters wide and at least 18 meters long.

There are two transverse chambers within the system. On the one hand, an extended dolmen made up of two girders on the long sides, a terminal stone on the northern narrow side and an entry stone opposite. The bearing stones are all close to one another in situ . Of the original two capstones, only the northwestern one is available, measuring 1.6 m × 0.7 m. The second chamber is also an extended dolmen of the same design, only with a large 1.5 m long entry stone. Again, all carriers are in situ. The preserved north-western capstone of 1.3 m × 0.7 m has been displaced, its southeastern neighbor is missing. In Ernst Sprockhoff's "Atlas of Germany's Megalithic Tombs" the large stone grave is listed as "Sprockhoff 48".
