H-Aero ( proper spelling : H-AERO ) is an electric aircraft from the Baden-Baden startup Hybrid-Airplane GmbH, which is designed as a hybrid airship . It is distinguished from conventional aircraft of this type by the additional vertical take- off capability .

history

The prototype, H-Aero One, which can get its propulsion energy completely from renewable energy sources through solar cells, was presented for the first time at the ILA ( International Aerospace Exhibition ) in Berlin from June 1st to 4th, 2016. The patented flying object was developed by Csaba Singer in cooperation with the University of Stuttgart . Hybrid-Airplane is funded by EXIST (funding program) , an initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy . In June 2012, the committee of the NASA Congress “Concepts and Approaches for Mars Exploration” judged the concept as an alternative way of exploring Mars from a bird's eye view and invited Singer to present the concept in Houston . The series-ready product of the H-Aero One was presented at the UTSEC - Unmanned Technologies & Security, the Nuremberg Exhibition Center , from March 2nd to 3rd, 2017. H-Aero One flew publicly for the first time at CeBIT 2017 in Hanover .

construction

The aircraft combines the static with the dynamic lift and is optionally configured in its entirety as mirror-symmetrical or rotationally symmetrical and thus uses the functionality of balloons , airplanes and helicopters . It has a gas cell and two wings that can be rotated by 180 ° with a symmetrical wing profile, each with an electric motor at the end of the wing. As is usual with balloons, the static lift vector (lifting gas ) and the vector of the payload weight including batteries are arranged opposite one another. The shell is not cigar-shaped, but is rotationally symmetrical, similar to a frisbee disc. As with airships, the vectors of the carried components are not distributed over the entire length of the anchor bracket (bow), tail units (stern) and cabin in between. In contrast to aircraft based purely on dynamic lift, the universal aircraft can take off and stay in the air much more energy-efficiently.

The initially unmanned flight system, whose shell is three meters in diameter, can take off and land vertically ( VTOL ) and move like an airplane. The flight speed is around 20 km / h, the maximum altitude around 4,000 meters. With a dry weight of 4400 grams, H-Aero One can move payloads of up to three kilograms. Thanks to the helium , H-Aero has its own natural (static) buoyancy and can thus achieve a flight duration of up to nine hours. H-Aero can be controlled via radio modem , via cellular network or in closed rooms via W-LAN .

Hybrid aircraft models

H-Aero Zero, Startupcon Cologne 2017

H-Aero Zero

The H-Aero Zero is the smallest model with a span of 3 meters and is suitable for indoor and outdoor applications with a wind force of up to 10 km / h including gusts. With a payload of 500 grams and a top speed of 10 km / h, the Zero can stay in the air for 160 minutes.

H-Aero One, Stuttgart 2017

H-Aero One

The H-Aero One has a diameter of 5 meters and can carry 3 kilograms for up to 400 minutes. With a top speed of 15 km / h, it is suitable for indoor and outdoor use with a headwind of up to 10 km / h including gusts of wind.

use

H-Aero can be used as a surveillance platform, for tracking shots or as a reusable weather balloon . In the larger versions that are currently in development, it should later help with the short-term provision of communication networks.
