HA Jonas Sons & Co.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

HA Jonas Söhne & Co. was a Hamburg private bank , it existed from 1826 to 1941.

The roots of this independent private bank go back to the year 1783, in which it was founded by three related Mr. Jonas. But it was not until 1826 that the bank was legally registered as HA Jonas Sons & Co. In addition to the usual banking business, the Jonas family ran their own gold and silver refinery, which was transferred to Norddeutsche Affinerie in 1873 .

The Jonas-Bank was part of a consortium of Hamburg entrepreneurs, including Max Warburg , Rudolf Blohm and Hermann Münchmeyer the Younger , who founded the Hamburgische Bank Aktiengesellschaft from 1923 and through it brought out the first stable money after the inflation.

Since 1941 the bank was called Herms & Co. and was renamed Herms Bank KG in 1982 . In 1983, after a phase of strong expansion, the bank had to close its counters because a significant, uncovered need for write-downs was identified.
