The Hella Behr Plastic Omnium (HBPO) is a joint venture of the company Hella , Mahle Behr and Plastic Omnium and is a manufacturer of vehicle fronts ( front-end modules ). According to its own information, it is the only system integrator in this field worldwide. HBPO employs over 2,000 people worldwide who currently assemble more than 5.4 million vehicle fronts per year in 24 production sites in synchronized order in Europe, North America and Asia.
history
Hella has been a system partner to the automotive industry in the field of front-end modules since the early 1990s. The first front end for the VW Golf III was manufactured in 1992 in the Hella factory in Meerane (now HBPO Germany GmbH) for Volkswagen Saxony .
In 1997, Hella received its first order with full responsibility for the development and selection of suppliers of the individual components for the front-end module of the Škoda Fabia A04.
Hella-Behr Fahrzeugsysteme GmbH (HBF) was founded in 1999 as a joint venture between the lighting and electronics expert Hella and the cooler and air conditioning company Behr. In the same year, the Hella-Behr Vehicle Systems Inc. technical support center (now HBPO North America Inc.) was founded in Troy (Michigan) .
In 2002 HBF became active on the Asian market. Via the joint venture SHB Automotive Module Company Ltd. A partnership for front-end modules began in Daegu in South Korea with the Korean automotive supplier Samlip .
The joint venture HBPO GmbH was created in 2004 through the inclusion of the third partner Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior, whose portfolio included painted plastic add-on parts, crash management and pedestrian protection.
In 2006 HBPO inaugurated its new company headquarters in Lippstadt and moved into a modern building. In 2012, another joint venture, HHBPO, was founded with DRB-HICOM in Malaysia.
