history
The Hockey Club de Caen was founded in 1968. The club celebrated its greatest success so far in 2000 when it surprisingly won the Coupe de France , the national cup competition. Only two years earlier, Caen rose as champions of division 1 in the Ligue Magnus , the highest French ice hockey league . But already in the 2000/01 season, the first after the cup triumph, they were relegated from the first division as the penultimate after only three years. It was not until the 2005/06 season that the Drakkars played again in the Ligue Magnus. In the first season after their promotion they were third from bottom of 14 teams. In the 2006/07 season they reached the fourth from bottom of the qualifying round for the playoffs, in which, however, they were defeated by the Gothiques d'Amiens with 0-2 games .
After a disappointing final place in the 2007/08 season, Caen had to accept relegation from Ligue Magnus for the second time in seven years. In the 2009/10 season succeeded as first place in Division 1 and subsequent wins in the play-offs, the return to the top division. After the team in 2011, 2013 and 2014 reached the league over the relegation and 2012 in twelfth even the second round had reached the playoffs, she won in 2015 for the third year in a row the last place in the main round and lost time, the Play Downs against second-bottom, the Lyon Hockey Club , and therefore had to leave the top French league after five years.
Furthermore, the club took in the season 2000/01 at the discharge of the IIHF Continental Cup in part. In a group with the Herning Blue Fox , Nijmegen Tigers and the CH Txuri Urdin two wins, one game was lost. As group runner-up behind the Herning Blue Fox, the entry into the second round was missed.
