The Hestur is the world's oldest continuously published magazine on Iceland horses . The HESTUR is the club magazine of the Icelandic horse breeding and sport club Nord e. V. (IPZV Nord e.V.) . Hestur comes from Icelandic and means horse . As a German-language, bimonthly special-interest magazine , it is freely available for purchase and subscription. The content of the HESTUR is largely created on a voluntary basis; sales, layout and subscription are assigned to a professional agency.

History of the magazine

The first Hestur appeared on April 1, 1976 in an edition of 300 copies as the " specialist magazine for Icelandic horse lovers in Northern Germany " (combined with " Der Icelandhund "). It comprised 36 pages and was a DIN-A5 booklet made with the simplest means, black and white and typed on a typewriter. It already included numerous photos and advertisements and also contained the news from the Association of Breeders, Owners and Friends of the Icelandic Dog .

The HESTUR was co-initiated by Volker Ledermann, the co-founder of the company edding , which supported the HESTUR for many years. During this time, Volker Ledermann was the public relations officer of the IPZV-Nord founded in 1975, its first chairman from 1979 to 1986, breeding warden in the IPZV umbrella organization and later president of the international Icelandic horse association FEIF and its breeding warden.

We started at that time to make the Icelandic horse popular in Germany. We wanted to do something to change and improve - not politics, but relevant and human work. We wrote and pasted articles, brought them to the printer, read proofs - a lot of time, effort, work and a lot of fun ”. It was "only the north who succeeded in setting up a magazine that was also recognized internationally."

The first HESTUR appeared in A4 format after it could hardly be bound in 1994 with 135 pages, with the 77th edition in the 19th year of 1995. From this edition the title page was primed "Icelandic" blue In the 100th edition in 2000, HESTUR appeared with a full color title. Since 2002 (HESTUR No. 107) the magazine has been published in full color every two months. Since January 2010 (HESTUR No. 151), the HESTUR has been published with a renewed editorial office, a changed layout and a new agency.
