HGH is a Norwegian alternative country / bluegrass band from the much better known rock band Motorpsycho . They call their style Trashgrass in reference to their alternative approach to bluegrass, but also as a parody of the exaggerated creation of genre names in the music business. The lack of percussion instruments is striking. Rhythm is created exclusively with string instruments. HGH cannot be compared to classic country bands. The sound is sometimes very psychedelic with sometimes distorted vocals and many effects.

Band history

Arisen HGH through a project consisting of the then Motorpsycho - drummer Håkon Gebhardt , the Homegroan singer Martin Hagfors and guitarist Haugen. The three letters are an abbreviation of their last names. In 1999 they recorded their debut album Pignoise with the simplest means in a lonely hut in Norway . A permanent band was not planned at the time. A short time later, Haugen left the band, whereupon Gebhardt and Hagfors continued together. Since then, HGH has stood for Hagfors Gebhardt Hickstars . At the beginning of 2005 Gebhardt then left Motorpsycho in order to be able to devote more time to HGH, among other things.

live

One of the great strengths of HGH is the live concerts. The two charismatic musicians only manage to produce great sounds with the simplest means in small clubs. This also includes a repertoire of self-made and rare instruments such as an electric mandolin, which is only strung with an oversized bass string, etc. A large number of fictional, bizarre anecdotes that Gebhardt and Hagfors tell between the songs are typical, so that some performances are almost more cabaret than concerts. That includes the story of Father Seb.

Father Seb

Since their third album, Seb's Hotel , a large number of the HGH songs have been about Father Seb, a northern Italian pizza maker, who found enlightenment in the statue of Mary weeping in olive oil above his pizza oven. Father Seb is celebrated as the role model and spiritual leader of the band, at concerts he is worshiped and sung about in the manner of an American revival preacher and the audience is asked to repent.

According to a myth , Father Seb is an Italian Motorpsycho fan who drove the band in 2001. His own small car served as the tour bus. According to rumors, Father Seb was previously known by the first name Sebastiano. His track is lost after the 2001 tour.
