The DT6 ( D ouble t railcars 6) is a subway car number in development of Hamburger high Bahn AG to be put into service at the end of the 2026th

technical features

The DT6 series is planned on the basis of the traditional clearance profile of the elevated railway for vehicles with a width of 2.64 meters and a height of 3.33 meters, which roughly corresponds to the parameters of the latest Hamburg vehicle generation DT5 . At around 40 meters, the length of a vehicle unit should also correspond to that of the DT5, but the vehicles should be around 10 cm wider than those of the DT5 and thus offer a more spacious interior. Another major difference is the four-part structure of the vehicle compared to the three-part structure of the DT5.

The DT6 should be able to be used in a maximum of three-part train formations with a total length of around 120 meters, which corresponds to the maximum possible lengths on the existing U1 , U2 and U4 lines as well as on the U5 that is currently being planned .

Air conditioning or dehumidifying systems for the passenger compartment are optional.

variants

The DT6 series is being developed in two variants based on a common platform; the type DT6- A is designed for fully automatic operation on the U5, while the type DT6- F is designed for conventional or semi-automatic operation and is to gradually replace the vehicles of the DT4 series acquired from the 1980s .

The main difference between the two variants is that the DT6-A type will dispense with the driver's compartments at the ends of the train and instead offer seats for passengers with a view from the front or rear of the train.

Tender

A first Europe-wide tender for the vehicle was published on September 30, 2014, but was later discontinued after Hochbahn was satisfied with the DT5, which was purchased at the same time, and instead initially triggered repeat orders for it.

Another call for tenders for the DT6 is to be launched in early 2021, and the award is to take place by the end of the same year.

After the first tender was still intended to initially only order 40-80 units with the option of a further 80 units, the number has meanwhile increased to 350 units. 90 units of the type DT6-A and 260 of the type DT6-F are to be procured.
