The tank locomotives Project 83 of the Frankfurt-Königsteiner Eisenbahn (FKE) and the Hersfeld Kreisbahn were procured in two copies for mixed passenger and freight train operations. The locomotives built by Henschel in 1954 had a  1'D1 ' wheel arrangement and a two-cylinder superheated steam engine . The leading and trailing axles were stored in Bissel racks.

The locomotives were intended for the transport of all types of trains on the Frankfurt-Königsteiner Eisenbahn (FK) and the Hersfelder Kreisbahn (HKB). They were in operation for up to 20 years. A locomotive was received first from EUROVAPOR and later from the Wutachtalbahn .

history

Hersfeld circular path

The locomotive was part of the unrealized series 83 project for the Deutsche Bundesbahn . Two locomotives were manufactured by Henschel. Presumably both machines were manufactured for a foreign customer, but this deal did not materialize. Henschel was looking for a buyer in Germany. A locomotive with the serial number 25277 took over the Hersfeld Kreisbahn, where it was given the number 1 II . The locomotive was in service until 1965 and was then sold to South Africa after a long period of storage . There is no information about the whereabouts of the locomotive.

Frankfurt-Koenigsteiner Railway

Since the existing locomotives of the former class Prussian T 9.1 and Palatine P 5 could no longer cope with the heavy commuter trains on the Frankfurt-Königsteiner Railway and suitable diesel locomotive designs were not yet available, the FK decided to order another steam locomotive from Henschel and bought the locomotive with the serial number 25263 . With its four coupled axles and one leading and one trailing axle each, the locomotive was ideally suited for heavy suburban traffic on the steep and winding Frankfurt-Königstein Railway. It carried passenger trains with up to seven three-axle vehicles. The locomotive was involved in a serious accident in 1966, as a result of which it had to undergo major repairs at the repair shop in Frankfurt-Nied . In 1969 the locomotive was taken out of service by the FK due to the discontinuation of steam operation. The locomotive was parked for several years and was then sold to EUROVAPOR. At the end of 2012, the locomotive came into the ownership of the Wutachtalbahn. After receiving a new boiler in 2012, it came to the Meiningen steam locomotive works a year later and was rebuilt to drive. Since then she has been able to run tourist trains again on the Sauschwänzlebahn .
