history

HKL was founded in 1970 by the partners Claus Städing (1940-2006) from Hamburg, Hans-Hermann Johnson from Kiel and Bernd Meyer (1940-2009) from Lübeck with these three locations (the name "HKL" was formed from the first letters of the cities ). While initially only construction machines and construction equipment were sold, the first construction machine rental park was set up in 1972. In 1976, the rental of steel shoring began. In 1979 the first mini excavator was in the rental park. In 1983 telescopic machines were introduced and in 1996 enveloping circle excavators were introduced in Germany. In 2004 a special machine rental with operating personnel began.

In addition to renting construction machinery, room systems and vehicles, HKL also operates around 140 construction shops in which construction equipment and accessories are sold. The so-called HKL rental shops, in which small appliances and tools are also rented, have been new since 2003. HKL has its own service organization to be able to repair both the rental machines and external machines. In 2016, the company achieved a turnover of around 330 million euros with its 1,300 employees in the rental, construction machinery trade, construction shop and service divisions.

HKL Baumaschinen Austria was founded in 2012. The first centers were built in Wiener-Neudorf and Linz. In 2013 further HKL centers were opened in Wolkersdorf (Vienna) and Graz. In 2013 HKL opened its own online shop, in which construction equipment and accessories are offered for sale. In 2016, the first special center for work platforms and telescopic machines was created in Dortmund.
