The network is organized under the umbrella organization HLB Deutschland GmbH based in Düsseldorf and ranks third in the top 10 ranking of networks with independent member companies operating in Germany.

Foundation and company history

The global network was founded in 1969. The name HLB is an abbreviation of Hodgson Landau Brands and is based on the names of three of the original founding partners: Hodgson Harris (GB), Mann Judd Landau (USA) and Brands & Wolff (NL). Over time, these names disappeared through various mergers, and in 1990 the network was renamed HLB International (HLB). The abbreviation also stood for "Helping Local Business Internationally".

At the beginning of 2019, the global HLB association had 745 offices with more than 27,400 employees in over 150 countries around the world, including all of the world's major economic centers.

In 2008 HLB was accepted as a member of the Forum of Firms , which also includes the Big Four .

In 1972 the two auditing and tax consultancy firms Treumerkur Dr. Schmidt and Partner KG in Wuppertal and Hamburger Treuhand Albert Blunk, Schomerus & Partner with the cooperation under the roof of HLB Deutschland GmbH and also joined the international network. Later other law firms joined the association: For example, in 1978 the Linn Goppold Treuhand GmbH in Munich, in 1985 the Düsseldorf-based Dr. Schumacher & Partner GmbH, 1989 the Dr. Dienst & Partner KG in Koblenz and in 1994 the Bielefeld Dr. Stückmann and Partner.

The work of HLB Germany is coordinated by a five-person management committee and a central secretariat with a general secretary, an office manager, a marketing manager and an event manager. The tasks of the central secretariat include a. the organization of conferences and seminars, the organization of working groups as well as the development, coordination and monitoring of joint projects (e.g. for quality assurance, in marketing or in training). At the same time, the central secretariat is the interface between HLB International and the German member companies.
