The HMS Echo (H87) is a reconnaissance ship and also serves as the Royal Navy's hydrographic survey ship . The HMS Echo is the namesake of the Echo class. It was launched on March 2, 2002 and entered service on March 7, 2003.

Reconnaissance skills and hydrography

The HMS Echo has hydrographic and geodetic measuring instruments and can use them to support amphibious and underwater operations by other forces. It can detect and identify underwater vehicles. The ship also serves as a base of operations for naval operations.

The ship has a side-view sonar and various echo sounders , a laboratory for taking water samples and IT systems for mapping and investigating the seabed . A detached sonar boat can operate independently.

Known missions

In December 2018, the HMS Echo passed the Bosporus and was deployed in the Black Sea at the request of Ukraine . In May 2019 she took part in a maneuver by the Ukrainian Navy .
