HMS Surprise
Five warships of the British Navy were designated as HMS Surprise (German: surprise ).
- The first HMS Surprise was the French 24-gun corvette L'Unité , originally built in Le Havre in 1794 , which was conquered by the English in 1796 and was in service with the Royal Navy until 1802 as a 28-gun frigate 6th rank .
- The second HMS Surprise was one of the numerous 38-gun frigates of the Leda class . It was launched in 1812 and was used in the 1812 war against the United States . It was canceled in 1837.
- The third HMS Surprise was a screw-driven wooden sloop launched in 1856 and scrapped in 1866.
- The fourth HMS Surprise was the first ship of a class of protected cruisers named after her, built in 1885 . It was renamed Alacrity in 1913 and served on the coasts of China until it was dismantled in 1919 .
- The fifth HMS Surprise was a 1916-built destroyers of the R-Class . It was sunk by a mine in 1917 during the First World War .
