The HSG Neuss / Düsseldorf is a handball community from the cities of Neuss and Düsseldorf . It was created on July 1, 2017 from a cooperation between the Neusser HV and ART Düsseldorf associations . This now consists of the Neusser HV and HC Rhein Vikings eV clubs
The two clubs bundled their previous men's and youth teams there. In the 2017/18 season, HSG Neuss / Düsseldorf took over the place for the 2nd Bundesliga from the Neuss AGM, which had been promoted in the 2016/17 season. The first team plays under the brand name HC Rhein Vikings .
history
founding
The Neusser HV was founded in 1992 and has played in the 3rd division since 2013 . In the 2016/17 season they made it to the 2nd Bundesliga.
The handball community HSG ART Düsseldorf was created in 2000 from a merger between HSV Düsseldorf and the General Rather Turnverein (ART). In the following years the HSG played alternately in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga.
In spring 2017, the Neuss AGM and HSG ART Düsseldorf announced a cooperation. Thus the Neusser AG supported the HSG ART with players. Also driven by the financial situation of both clubs, the previous nhv1 Handball Spielbetriebs- und Marketing GmbH, which was responsible for the license marketing of the Neuss AGM, was renamed the Handball Club Rhein Vikings Spielbetriebs- Marketing GmbH. This takes care of the first and second teams, as well as the first teams of the A, B and C youth. The basic work is done by the HSG Neuss / Düsseldorf, founded on July 1, 2017.
Opening season
On August 27, 2017, the Vikings started their first game of the season since the syndicate was founded. Against SG BBM Bietigheim they lost 30:20. On the second day of the match they celebrated their first victory in the club's history. In the end it was 24:23 against HSG Konstanz . At the end of the season, the team reached 14th place.
Relegation to the 3rd division
The Vikings started their second Bundesliga season on August 28, 2018, but could not achieve their first victory until matchday 4. This was followed by 15 defeats in a row. Jörg Bohrmann took over the coaching position from Ceven Klatt in October 2018. But Bohrmann, who had previously trained the B-youth of HSG Neuss / Düsseldorf, could not stop the series of defeats. At the end of the season, the club was relegated to the 3rd division.
At the end of June 2019 there were changes within the HSG Neuss / Düsseldorf. The newly founded HC Rhein Vikings eV joins the HSG Neuss / Düsseldorf. The previous partner in the HSG, ART 1877 / 90Düsseldorf eV, left the handball community. Thus, the first team, which continues to appear under the name HC Rhein Vikings, plays its home games again in Neuss.
In January 2020, the first men's team had to be withdrawn from the game with a score of 19:17 points. The economic sponsor, HC Rhein Vikings UG, had filed for insolvency shortly beforehand. However, this bankruptcy does not affect the actual license holder, the Neusser Handballverein eV.
More teams
The HSG Neuss / Düsseldorf II, or U-23, plays in the Oberliga Niederrhein. The HSG Neuss / Düsseldorf 3M plays in the Niederrhein Landesliga and the fourth team in the Kreisliga.
The A-Jugend of the HSG played in the A-Jugend Bundesliga West until the 2018/2019 season , where they took over the starting position of the Neuss AGM for the 2017/18 season. The team could not qualify for the 2019/2020 season, for this reason it was decided to cooperate with the DJK Adler Königshof. This provides for players from HSG Neuss / Düsseldorf and DJK Adler Königshof eV to compete in the A-Youth Bundesliga together under the name Adler Königshof.
The B-youth plays in the Oberliga Niederrhein.
