The Howaizen Squad ( HWSQ for short , its own spelling HOWAiZEN SQUAD ) was a German Let's Play series on the web video platform YouTube , published by Gronkh , Mr. Currywurst , Pandorya and Tobinator . In the format they played and commented on various computer games .

The group of four players - not yet known as Howaizen Squad at the time - became known primarily for their first two seasons with the video games Dead by Daylight and Trouble in Terrorist Town . The third season was then called Howaizen Squad and they played a lot of different games. The last episode was uploaded on July 6, 2019, after which the series was unexpectedly canceled.

history

season 1

Shortly after the video game Dead by Daylight was released , Pandorya and Gronkh did a standard Let's Play . From episode 2, Mr. Currywurst and Tobinator were added. In season 1 they played only Dead by Daylight. Either one of them was the killer and everyone else had to escape as survivors or they played together against a strange killer. The first season has 99 episodes.

season 2

In season 2, the four played exclusively Trouble in Terrorist Town, an expansion of the game Garry's Mod . In the game mode, a so-called “traitor” (in German: traitor) is determined at random, the rest is an “innocent” (in German: innocent). The goal of the traitor is to kill all innocents.

season 3

From season 3, they played a variety of video games. Most of the time a game was played for several episodes. The third season started for the first time with the name Howaizen Squad, before that there was no fixed name for the format. On July 6, 2019, the series ended with an episode of the browser game skribbl.io . In the video itself, the four were not yet aware that they would cancel the series.

resolution

Pandorya announced the breakup of the series on July 7, 2019 on Instagram . Nobody wanted to give out specific information over a short period of time on the grounds that they did not want to harm those affected. "Curry" then posted a video on its YouTube channel trying to explain the incident and the breakup. He said there that he had cheated on his girlfriend for the third time by writing to strange women and he said that he was solely responsible for the separation of the group.

Gronkh also wrote that he would like to make another video on the subject, which he withdrew after Tobinator's tweet. Finally he said that without Mr Currywurst there could be no HWSQ. Dennis, Pandorya's brother and a good friend of Mr. Currywurst, was also critical of Mr. Currywurst on Twitter.

After a short break, Mr. Currywurst is now doing videos and live streaming again .

Continuation

After the dissolution, the METT project was started, in which the three of them continued the project under the new name without currywurst, but with two irregular guests. The name consists of each of the first letter of the name, ie M aximilian (PhunkRoyal) or M ichael (hood worm), the two irregular guests E rik (Gronkh), T atjana (Pandorya) and T obias (Tobinator).

reception

Howaizen Squad is one of the big Let's Play series on German-speaking YouTube . The game Ben & Ed - Blood Party has its own clothing for the Howaizen Squad integrated into the game.

After the dissolution of the HWSQ , there were press reports, including from Giga and game tips. In addition, the hashtag #hwsq was in the Twitter trends after the split. The influencer drama was rated as damaging to the entire games industry.
