from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes Fischer , also known as Hans or Johann (born between 1570 and 1580 in Augsburg ; died 1643 there ) was a German goldsmith and painter. He was also mistakenly referred to as Johann Georg Fischer or confused with Georg Vischer , the Munich court painter to Maximilian of Bavaria .

Life

Fischer was probably born in 1570 and initially worked as a goldsmith in Augsburg before he went to Prague to study painting at the Rudolphinische Akademie . He then toured Italy to perfect his education. He then settled in Augsburg and worked as an oil and fresco painter, who mostly created historical paintings on copper or decorated houses on the Weinmarkt . Among his customers were members of the Fugger .

Joachim von Sandrart wrote about him:

“At the same time there was a noble goldsmith in Augstburg / name Johannes Fischer [...] and because his clever mind [...] always stimulated him to higher arts / he went [...] to the then universal art academy in Prague / [... ] In a peculiar way, however, he / through the knowledge of giving the colors a long lasting existence / great fame. Finally he passed away there in 1643 [...] in the 63rd year of his age / from his ashes / [...] not just a daughter rich in art; but also grown up a uniform grandson. "
