Haʻano (also: Haaono ) is an island on the northern edge of the Haʻapai archipelago in the Pacific . Politically, it belongs to the Ha'ano district of the same name in the Kingdom of Tonga .

geography

The Motu forms the northern tip of the reef rim to which the main islands Foa , Lifuka and Uoleva also belong.

To the northeast is the Bethune Bank , the closest islands to the west are Luahoko and Puleieia . About 120 inhabitants live on the island, only a narrow canal separates them from Nukunamu and Foa to the south . On the island are the four settlements Muitoa , Ha'ano , Pukutala and Fakaka ; the island part of Selila is considered a separate island.

climate

The climate is tropical hot, but is tempered by constantly blowing winds. Like the other islands of the Ha'apai group, Ha'ano is occasionally hit by cyclones .
