Projects

A concrete workshop and a carpenter's workshop are maintained, in which the disabled from the Migdal Nofim home for the disabled can find a job, which is not an everyday occurrence in Israel. The products manufactured by those supervised (e.g. park benches) can be seen in many Israeli parks; they are often financed by the Jewish National Fund (KKL).

A retirement home is also to be operated in the future. The completed construction projects include a sports hall and group apartments outside the home for the disabled.

A transport service to school and kindergarten has been created for Migdaler children and there is a care service for the elderly.

organization

The association was founded in 1972 by several German families in cooperation with the Israeli Ministry of Social Affairs and the Migdaler Heim "Nofim". The board of directors of the organization today consists of one representative from each of the four German families and the head of the “Nofim” home. The main initiator of the founding and long-time director is Günter Gottschalk , who took Jesus and religious-Jewish life as an example. He transferred his personal belongings to the association, which created the workshops, for example.

Home Nofim

The state home "Nofim" was established in 1969 in Migdal. Around 180 people with moderate to severe mental disabilities live in the 82-year-old home building. 70% of them belong to the Jewish faith, the remaining 30% are Christians, Muslims and Druze.

Short-term volunteer services / internship

There are several positions available for volunteers every year for a period of a few weeks to a year. The traineeship is usually held in the Nofim home for the disabled. The working week runs from Sunday to Thursday.

Educational work

With its information center, through events, workshops and seminars, access to the Jewish knowledge of the Torah should also be created for German-speaking people without any knowledge of English or Hebrew, as there is little information in Germany on the Noachidian laws and their followers, the "Sons of Noah" ( Hebrew Bnai Noach ) there.

Movie

The film Migdal - A Place of Atonement is a Belgian documentary by Miel Van Hoogenbempt. He describes the work of the German families of the association, who have set up a kind of Bethel in Migdal . The film was broadcast in the WDR show "Window on the World" on November 11, 1998. The German adaptation was done by Dierk L. Schaaf.

ARTE broadcast the original French title: Les gens de migdal with German subtitles.
