Habertürk TV is a Turkish news broadcaster .

history

The station was founded in 2001 by the journalist Ufuk Güldemir (1956–2007). In 2007 the Ciner media group bought the television station. Erdoğan Aktaş (2008–2009) became editor-in-chief. He was followed by Yiğit Bulut (2009–2012) and Erhan Çelik (2013–2016). Since January 2016, Veyis Ateş, previously head of the capital city office in Ankara , has been editor-in-chief.

There are many personal overlaps with the Habertürk daily newspaper, which is published by the same publisher . Some of the station's most famous faces, such as Fatih Altaylı and Murat Bardakçı, are also the authors of the newspaper. Other particularly prominent faces are the talk show presenters Didem Arslan Yılmaz and Balçiçek İlter as well as editor-in-chief Veyis Ateş, who also presents the main news program.

Government influence

In the course of the 2013/14 corruption scandal , an illegally recorded telephone conversation between the then Prime Minister Erdoğan and the deputy chairman of the Ciner-Holding Fatih Saraç became known. The conversation was recorded during the Gezi protests in June 2013. In the recording you could hear Erdoğan complaining that the Habertürk TV news treadmill reported in detail about a statement by opposition politician Devlet Bahçeli (MHP) on the subject. The relevant message was removed immediately after the conversation. According to Tagesspiegel journalist Thomas Seibert, Erdoğan treated the media manager like a “subordinate”. Asked about it at a press conference by Zaman journalist Ahmet Dönmez, Erdoğan admitted the call and justified himself by stating that he had to take action against "insults".
