Hadiyanto

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hadiyanto (born March 31, 1955 in Pekalongan ) is a former Indonesian world-class badminton player (not to be confused with the later Indonesian top player Luluk Hadiyanto).

Athletic career

Hadiyanto caused the big surprise at the 1980 World Cup when he eliminated one of the big tournament favorites with Prakash Padukone in the quarter-finals. He indicated that he was to be expected as early as 1977 and 1978 at national events when he defeated the entire Indonesian elite in men's singles. Last year, Hadiyanto and compatriot Juniato Suhandinata caused a stir when both were withdrawn from their association by the All England because they were supposed to meet players from South Africa. At that time, South Africa was still boycotted by many countries because of its apartheid policy. In 1984 he was again instrumental in winning the Thomas Cup , but was only used in the preliminary rounds. In the final against China, he had to take a break because the Indonesian coach Hastomo Arbi preferred. Arbi justified the trust placed in him and defeated the world championship third from 1983 and later world champion Han Jian .
