The Port of Anchorage (Engl. Port of Anchorage ) is a seaport in Anchorage , Alaska , United States. It is used as a freight and passenger port. The ice-free deep-water port was opened in 1915. It is the successor port for Port of Seward, which was destroyed in an earthquake.

The port is located on the Knick Arm in Cook Inlet (Ship Creek) on the Gulf of Alaska , which is part of the Pacific Ocean , and is in the western part of the city of Anchorage .

The owner is the Municipality of Anchorage . The city acts as a public company with the "Port of Anchorage" . The Anchorage Port Commission is in charge of this.
meaning
Economical meaning
The port is of particular importance because of its handling of oil . It is also an important cruise port. Almost 90% of all goods for Alaska are handled through this port.
Military importance
Since 2006, the port has been one of the 16 most important strategic seaports of military importance for the United States ( Department of Defense Nationally Strategic Seaport ), partly because of the oil supply to the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richards .
