history

Surname

Hafenstrasse was named after the Bremen ports in the Bremen area.

development

In Bremen, from 1887, a port, the Europahafen, was built downstream of the city center. When Bremen joined the German Customs Union in 1888, the new port remained customs abroad. This lucrative free port was expanded to include the timber and factory port in 1891–1900. The overseas port was added in 1906. In 1910, the complex of industrial ports was opened north of the previous port basin.

In Überseestadt there is still a commercially used harbor basin (grain harbor and wood and factory harbor). The urban development concept Überseestadt is being implemented through residential and commercial buildings on the abandoned and filled-in port basin of the former Überseehafen and around the Europahafen.

traffic

In the past, Hafenstraße led directly to Faulenstraße in the old town of Bremen.

The Bremen tram touches the street at Hansator with line 3 (Gröpelingen - Überseestadt - Weserwehr) and 5 (Gröpelingen - Überseestadt - Bürgerpark).

In local transport in Bremen, bus lines 20 (Hohweg ↔ Europahafen) and 28 (Überseestadt ↔ Universität-Nord) touch the street at the Hansator.
