Hans Joachim "Hajo" Drott (born November 29, 1929 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German multimedia artist . He works in the fields of material images, electronic objects, computer graphics and computer animation .

Life

After studying chemistry and physics at the Martin Luther University Halle (Saale) (1952–1957), Hajo Drott worked in the chemical (1957–1964) and electronic semiconductor industry (1964–1989) in Munich , from 1970 to 1974 in Pakistan . He began his artistic activity in 1973.

From 1989 to 1994 Drott completed a degree in art history and philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , which he completed with a doctorate. phil. completed (dissertation: The image in the field of tension between reality and fiction - aspects of computer-generated image worlds ). Hajo Drott lives in Taufkirchen near Munich .

Artistic activity

In 1973 Drott's first light kinetic objects were created. His material paintings of the 1970s as well as the lighting and electronic objects from the 1970s to the 1990s, in addition to the light art and the kinetic art are assigned. In his electronic objects, which were created from the 1970s, Drott tried to use modern technology to design and make visible the influences and effects that science and technology exert on people's lives in today's world.

In 1985 Drott started computer screen printing and laser projection. In 1986 computer-controlled microprocessors were used in kinetic objects. In 1988 he also worked with ultraviolet light and ultraviolet color. In strict, grid-like picture structures, programmed light sequences run, which are created by electronic circuits designed by the artist and which constantly generate new light geometries.

Since 1990 Drott has concentrated on artistic work on the computer, the creation of computer graphics and computer animations, with acoustic elements also playing an important role in the latter. The computer animations created from 1996 onwards were usually generated entirely on the computer.

The trained scientist wants to make the commonalities between art and science visible in his artistic works. In his material pictures, computer screen prints and computer graphics, geometrical-mathematical relationships largely determine the aesthetics of the picture.

The total number of his works is over 600.
